Favorite Trip

Our favorite trip was when we first hit the road full-time and drove all the way up the coast of California and into Oregon. Our first 3 months as full-time RVers we drove the entire Pacific Coast Highway and camped at different beautiful beaches along the way. We then drove through the towering redwoods in Redwood National Forest and continued on through Oregon and Idaho on our way to Glacier National Park in Montana. There was so much stunning scenery and adventure around every corner that entire trip.

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Favorite RV

We loved our Winnebago Navion 24D. It was nimble so we could park it pretty much anywhere but it still gave us a comfortable living space with the Murphy bed. We drove it all over the country!

About Contributor

Lindsay McKenzie travels full-time in her Winnebago Navion with her husband Dan and their 2 dogs. Originally from Colorado, they have been seeking adventure together for 10 years now and have done a lot of international traveling, including living in Costa Rica. They took the leap into full time RVing after experiencing life-altering news. They viewed the news as a life “detour” and started a travel and inspirational blog called Follow Your Detour. Lindsay has grown more passionate about pursuing her dreams and a leading a fulfilling life, while inspiring others to do the same. She loves that RVing allows her to be in nature and do more of what she loves. You can usually find her on the river fly fishing, hiking to sunset spots, or at a local brewery. RVing is becoming a more and more desired way to travel in the U.S. This not only influences the way RVs are being designed, but it seems RV parks have popped up everywhere.

If luxury is your style, we’ve got you covered with some of the top highly-rated luxury RV resorts across the country. These types of resorts are becoming increasingly more popular and there are more of them now than ever, perfect for an RV adventure whether you’re in a comfy Class C, a new or used travel trailer, or something in between. Missing from the list is Riverbend Motorcoach Resort on the Caloosahatchee River just east of Ft Meyers, Fl. Riverbend is truly a gorgeous place with luxury accommodations for Class A coaches only. The resort has so many amenities such as a reverse osmosis water purification systems, a marina with boat launch and slips, fiber high speed wireless and coach houses on each site, multiple clubhouses, workout room, pool, pickle ball, dog parks and much more. The people are great!

  • rod CHAPPLE says:

Alana is right. Pacific Shores resort is first class all the way but no old motorhomes or towables allowed. Wonderfully landscaped spaces and a complete club house with beautiful ocean and lighthouse views 2 swimming pools laundry etc, close to town, Walmart and good restaurants. They are a bit pricey in season (May thru Sept) but good deals are to be had the rest of the year and the amenities are worth the price and if you fall in love with the place you might even find a lot for sale.

  • Jim Hummel says:

Hearthside Grove in Northern Michigan is our favorite. We love lot 16.

  • Alan says:

StoneRidge in Northern Idaho has been rated by almost everyone as a 9.5 or better for the last six or seven years. Of the hundred or so we’ve visited all over the US, this one still ranks up there with the very best.

  • James Hoskinson says:

Love all the recommendations, dually noted but the list can’t be complete with out Hearth Grove Resort in Petrosky MI

  • Corie says:

Re Going to the Sun road in Glacier National Park..you cannot..nor would you want to…take your RV or trailer across. You will need to unhook your tow vehicle first, or book a seat in one of the red jammer buses.

  • Jeff Nene says:

We have camped at Ozarks RV Resorts several times and fell in love with it immediately! In fact, we loved it so much we bought a site and now go almost every weekend. It has the perfect blend of quiet, remote with plenty to do close by. Whether it’s fishing, motorcycle riding, boating, eating or Branson entertainment, it’s all an easy drive. So glad to see ORVR make the list again!

  • Bud Smith says:

Ozarks RV Resort on Table Rock Lake is by far one of the most amazing resorts we’ve been to! In the beautiful Arkansas Ozarks, close to Branson and Eureka Springs, great fishing nearby, and some of the best motorcycle riding in the country. A little piece of Heaven!

  • Lou Fuller says:

I don’t get it. Poulsen RV Resort is nice but nothing exciting. Pretty view but little amenities and you shared a pool with the KOA campground. There are so many other RV resorts that offer a great location, view and amendaties. We recently visited Stoneridge RV Resort in Blanchard, Idaho and we were amazed! They had everything plus more!

  • LISA says:

Ocean Mesa RV Resort at El Capitan, Santa Barbara is by far the best kept secret in CA.

None of these come close to the 6000 acres of natural mountain paradise in Ellijay, Ga called Coosawattee River Resort. However if you like souless concrete grids ,this isnt for you.

  • Ed Herbert says:

I think what you are seeing is that there are more and more incredible RV/Motorcoach Resorts in the country than one can include on any list. Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort is well deserving to be on this list. One missing is the beautiful Anchor Down RV Resort in Dandridge, TN cascading down to Douglas Lake. Reading through the comments, I see many other wonderful RV properties.

  • Bob Werner says:

You missed Camptown at Beverly Beach Fla. You park your RV on the seawall over looking the beach and Atlantic Ocean. Located just north of Flaggler Beach or Just south of St. Augustine Florida

  • Nicole says:

Should definitely try Reunion Lake RV Resort in Hammond, Louisiana. Along with many other perks, a unique feature is a heated lazy river.

  • Roger says:

Although Blue Water Key has a Key West address, readers may be disappointed to find its nearly 14 miles from Duvall Street. However, it is a magnificent location.

  • John Juge says:

so, I considered myself lucky that I live withing a few hours of the Sea Perch Resort in Oregon. after trying for 3 hours to get someone to answer the phone there, I went to their Webpage, which doesn’t have the ability to book online, and put in a request for contact. they asked about class of RV, length, and surprisingly, age. I answered everything, and then got a response back about an hour later apologizing but they dont allow any RV’s older than 2000 (mine is a mint condition 1994 Winnebago Vectra). Obviously they want to keep this park for the use of high net worth individuals only. which is fine, I guess, but I was curious if you knew about their exclusionary policies when you recommended them as a “Must Visit” resort? I would estimate that fully 2/3’rds of your readers likely wouldn’t be welcome…

  • Susan Rauschl says:

    Anchor Down in Dandridge, TN!
    Beautiful on lake Douglas!
    Check it out!

    Lindsay,
Great article and so honored to be included with such esteemed company. We’ve invested considerable effort and resources into making Ozarks Luxury RV Resort on Table Rock Lake a top destination for our RV friends. Thanks again for including us….and we’d welcome anyone to come and stay with us. We certainly look forward to checking out some of the other resorts as well!

  • Doug Hall says:

Missing from this list, and should be high on this list are: Aztec RV Resort in Fort Lauderdale FL and Pelican Lake RV Resort in Naples Florida. I can say, these are two of the finest properties we have ever stayed at. Mind blowing.

  • Lewis Edge says:

Outdoor Resorts in Cathedral City, California (next to Palm Springs) should also rank as a top-flight resort. Convenient to shopping and just a short drive from Joshua Tree National Park, this facility has great amenities. This Outdoor Resort is a 5-Star RV Resort and Country Club which welcomes motorhomes and towable RVs. It features 1,213 sites with metered 50-amp electric service, water, sewer and cable services. The resort sits on 137 beautifully landscaped, secured acres with 27 holes of executive golf, 12 tennis courts, 7 pickle-ball courts, 8 swimming pools, a fully equipped fitness center, espresso bar, beauty salon/barber shop, full-service restaurant, convenience store, multiple laundry facilities and two club houses. For dog lovers its only shortcoming is the lack of a spacious, fenced dog park.

  • Wade Thiel says:

    Thanks for the suggestion, Joy!

Flying Flsgs is very pretty. Problem is you don’t want to be there during holidays or summer time. It’s packed. Now, I love children and in fact we have 5 grown adult children and 13 grandchildren. But when I travel I don’t want to have to step over kids that are sometimes running crazy in the park while parents are partying at their RVs nor do I want to swim in a pool that has children and their pool toys poking at you and that’s what goes on. We’ve stopped going there because of it. At first they built a 2nd pool to accommodate the children while the older pool was for adults only.
That went by the wayside when they eliminated that rule.. Sooo weigh your options!

  • Cindi Hunt says:

Lindsay, don’t forget that Hilton Head Island is a destination for some of the best pickleball around. Check out Palmetto Dunes Pickleball club.

  • Brush says:

Hi, the West Glacier KOA is a beautiful resort and only 2.5 miles from Glacier National Park. It features 2 pools, hot tubs, Lazy Bear Cafe, Scoops ice cream shop, BBQ dinner in the evening. Voted 2017 #1 KOA in the nation. Definitely a bucket list destination.

  • David BL says:

Ocean Mesa; nice, good location but nothing special. Way overpriced.

  • Alana Hansen says:

I’m so glad you read the article – your effort and hard work shows! My husband and I are hoping to visit this fall on our way to the east coast and do some fishing. We will let you know so we can be sure to meet 🙂

  • Pam says:

Beverly Beach is a dog friendly beach also. Friendliest RV resort around! Although they have been there many years, you’d never be able to tell it as they update all the time. You are right on the beach wall! Campfires allowed on beach.

  • Brenda Sapir says:

Motorcoach Resort at St. Lucie West in Port St. Lucie is an absolutely beautiful park and should be on this list. Exit 121 off I-95.
